Norbergite is a nesosilicate mineral with formula Mg 3 (Si O 4)(F,OH) 2.It is a member of the humite group.. It was first described in 1926 for an occurrence in the Östanmoss iron mine in Norberg, Västmanland, Sweden, for which it is named. It occurs in contact metamorphic zones in carbonate rocks intruded by plutonic rocks or pegmatites supplying the fluorine.

Norbergite definition is - a mineral Mg3SiO4(F,OH)2 of the humite group composed of a magnesium silicate with fluorine and hydroxyl.
Norbergite is not a common mineral and is found only in a limited amount of localities worldwide. The type locality where this mineral was first described is the Östanmossa mine, Norberg, Västmanland, Sweden. The marbles of Mogok, Burma (Myanmar) have produced large gemmy crystals of Norbergite.

Norbergite was first discovered in Norberg, Sweden from where it gets it name. It forms as small grains in the marbles of contact metamorphic environments. Norbergite is a member of the Humite Group of minerals. Members of the Humite Group are noted for having a mixture of silicate layers and oxide layers in their structures.
Norbergite is a mineral in the humite group. It is quite rare, with only 33 localities listed in mindat. It is closely related to clinohumite, humite and chondrodite, and it is often found with one or more of these minerals.
