• Heklaite: Mineral information, data and localities.

www.mindat.org/min-39218.html Type locality heklaite is the natural product of hydrofluoric acid-bearing volcanic fumarole gases reacting with feldspar in volcanic rock. The much finer heklaite crystals from Polk County, Florida, are an accidental synthetic in gypsum industrial waste piles, a product of reaction between clay minerals and the hydrofluoric acid-rich byproducts of superphosphate fertilizer production.

rruff-2.geo.arizona.edu/uploads/MM74_147.pdf Heklaite was collected at gas temperatures as high as 330ºC. As the eruption fissure at Hekla was probably cooling slowly and at a steady rate, the measured temperatures at the time of sampling indicate the minimum temperature of deposition of heklaite. In the samples investigated, heklaite forms a fine-grained mass of micrometre- to sub-

Abstract Heklaite, with the ideal formula KNaSiF 6 , was found among fumarolic encrustations collected in 1992 on the Hekla volcano, Iceland. Heklaite forms a fine-grained mass of micron- to sub-micron-sized crystals intimately associated with malladrite, hieratite and ralstonite. The mineral is colourless, transparent, non-fluorescent, has a vitreous lustre and a white streak. The calculated ...

crystallography365.wordpress.com/2014/09/14/a-mineral-from-iceland-heklaite Heklaite was discovered in 1991 in a fissure on its namesake, the volcano Hekkla while it was erupting! Though it was known to be new, it took a study making this material int he lab before it’s crystal structure (and composition) was fully understood. Heklaite is #9013438 in the Crystallographic Open Database.
